This series, The Economy of Innocence,is a sustained visual inquiry into childhood as a structurally mediated condition shaped by global systems of value, labor, and distribution. It reconceptualizes innocence not as an inherent attribute but as a contingent resource unevenly allocated across social and economic formations. Within this framework, the child emerges as a subject of perception and claim—one who recognizes and negotiates the disjunction between lived reality and structural possibility. The series situates child labour within the broader political economy of the present, foregrounding how contemporary systems produce differentiated access to time, protection, and developmental autonomy. Through a social justice lens, it renders visible the architectures through which value is assigned to lives, advancing a visual language in which the child articulates a quiet but insistent claim to what is rightfully theirs within an unequal world.
