Lullaby - The Wings of Shelter

Lullaby - The Wings of Shelter

Curatorial Note:

Lullaby is a socio-political commentary on the pervasive and systemic reality of gender-based violence. Framed within the intersectional dynamics of patriarchy, power imbalance, and structural inequality, this painting speaks to the silencing, marginalization, and trauma endured by individuals—particularly women and gender-diverse persons, who have been subjected to sexual and gender-based violence.

The imagery of three butterflies becomes a metaphor for communal care, post-traumatic resilience, and the transformative power of collective healing. Instead of portraying survival through isolation, the artist highlights relational recovery—a process rooted in feminist solidarity, empathy, and mutual support systems. The Lullaby is not mere comfort; it is a radical act of resistance against societal norms that normalize silence, victim-blaming, and the invisibilization of pain.

This work is also a call to action: an invocation for bystander accountability, trauma-informed care, and the dismantling of stigmatizing narratives that hinder recovery and justice. The artist frames the painting as a restorative space—where survivors are not pathologized but honored; where silence becomes sacred, not oppressive, but held with intention and care by those willing to witness and stand in solidarity.

Lullaby stands as a visual site of remembrance, feminist resistance, and communal empowerment.

"Where systemic violence isolates, solidarity heals. Where one falls, many rise—wings wide, soft, and unbreakable."

Lullaby belongs to the series named "Disenthralled".
