CURATORIAL NOTE
Homecoming originates in the artist's memory of her grandparents' home, where humor and gathering shaped her earliest understanding of belonging. A whimsical painting once hung on their wall depicting animals feasting with joyful absurdity, an image that later returned in her own reinterpretation of turkeys seated at a harvest table. What began as intimate recollection develops into a structural inquiry into ritual and continuity.
While rendered with warmth and playfulness, the artwork examines celebration as a socially organized practice through which identity and continuity are reproduced across generations. Communal feasts function not merely as moments of festivity but as stabilizing cultural institutions that regulate time, reaffirm kinship, and transmit values through repetition. The table becomes an architectural center of belonging where roles are rehearsed, gestures inherited, and memory formalized through shared performance.
The symbolic inversion embedded in the imagery introduces reflexivity, revealing that tradition is both inherited and enacted. What appears nostalgic is structurally significant. The absence of such rituals often exposes the depth of their organizing power.
In alignment with Spring in Winter's structural methodology, Homecoming positions celebration as foundational social architecture, a practice through which communities renew cohesion, preserve memory, and sustain collective continuity.
