CURATORIAL NOTE

Disenthralled refers to the act of freeing oneself from the invisible social structures, norms, and inherited beliefs that confine identity, desire, and self-expression.

The Spectrum examines how societies structure intimacy, identity, and belonging through legal frameworks, institutional practices, and cultural norms. Rather than approaching love as purely private, the artwork situates desire within systems that determine legitimacy, recognition, and protection. Marriage law, gender classification policies, educational structures, and media narratives collectively shape which identities are affirmed and which remain conditional.

In alignment with Spring in Winter's structural methodology, the work connects policy design and cultural hierarchy to institutional gatekeeping and lived negotiation of selfhood. It reveals how emotional life unfolds within systems of approval and regulation, where recognition is structured rather than freely distributed. The Spectrum invites sustained reflection on how public architecture shapes private experience and how identity is affirmed or constrained within prevailing social design.
