Serenity - The Celtic Beannaithe
Serenity - The Celtic Beannaithe
Curatorial Note:
Serenity, from the series The Majesty in Becoming, draws upon Celtic mythology where the stag serves as a liminal messenger, guiding or testing seekers on their path toward destiny. The stag was sacred to Cernunnos, the antlered god of nature, fertility, and the cycle of life and death. To follow the stag was to follow spiritual transformation.
To the Celts, a stag is called the "beannaithe" — the blessed one — and is said to “carry the light of the forest in its eyes'', representing purity, mystery, and fate, appearing only when one stood on the brink of transformation. Kings and warriors chased the stag not for its capture but to be drawn into the unknown, to confront truth and destiny.
This artwork resonates as a living emblem of the human soul’s journey through transformation. Elusive and regal, the stag appears at moments of inner change, guiding the seeker into the mystic unknown, much like life’s pivotal thresholds where past and future converge. Just as the stag moves silently through the forest with alertness and poised awareness, so too must humans navigate their own landscape—drawing on intuition shaped by past experience, yet remaining open to what lies ahead. The stag teaches that true courage is not loud, but watchful; it is found in the quiet readiness to confront the next phase of growth. As it sheds and regrows its antlers each season, the stag mirrors the cycles of loss, renewal, and self-realization, reminding us that transformation is both natural and necessary—and that wisdom comes not from certainty, but from awakened presence.
